Maintenance of your General Lawn Mower

Always maintain your lawn mowers edge sharp. A wear out lawn mower blade tends to make an twisted cut to your lawn, and may even ruin your grass. Additionally, a clear , crisp edge means trimming efficiency, lessening deterioration of your lawn mower's engine along with other parts.

Make certain your lawn mower's air filter is clean and without any dust particles and dirt. You can usually just shake the air filter away to remove dust and debris. When you have the carburetor out provide it with a good clean up so that it's floating valve has the ability to move openly. Then replace the carburetor and switch the fuel back again.

Check out your lawn mower's gas. Along with always keeping the gas lead up, to at least halfway, ideally you should change any gas which was remained from the early season that did not have a stabilizer added to it.

Moreover to preserving the gasoline topped up and in excellent condition, ensure that you check out your lawn mower's fuel lines. Illinois Changes Law on Insurance of All-Terrain Vehicles As Of January 1, 2010

The General Assembly of Illinois has enacted legislation requiring liability insurance coverage of any "non-highway vehicle" used on Illinois roadways. In accord with the newly-adopted provision of the Illinois Motor Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5/11-1426.1), any person operating a "non-highway vehicle" on a street, highway or roadway is now subject to the state's mandatory insurance requirements, just like automobiles.

For purposes of the law, a "non-highway vehicle" means a motor vehicle not specifically designed for use on a public highway, including the following:

1. An all-terrain vehicle

2. A golf cart

3. An off-highway motorcycle

4. A neighborhood vehicle. A neighborhood vehicle, as defined in 625 ILCS 5/1-148.3m, means a self-propelled, electronic-powered, four-wheeler motor vehicle (or a self-propelled, gasoline-powered, four-wheeled motor with an engine displacement under 1,200 cubic centimeters) that is capable of attaining a speed of more than 20 miles per hour, but not more than 25 miles per hour, and which conforms to federal regulations under Title 49 C.F.R. Part 571.500.

The law also requires that an insurance card or policy Declarations page establishing proof of coverage must be presented to any law enforcement officer stopping one of these vehicles on a public roadway and requesting proof of insurance. Failure to produce the insurance card may subject the operator to a suspension of your automobile operator's license and/or a fine.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

The law requires you to have a "non-highway vehicle" insured for liability losses if operated on a public roadway. This would include a "non-highway vehicle" operated on a highway right-of way. You are strongly encouraged to immediately contact your insurance agent and inquire whether your "non-highway vehicles" are insured by such a policy or endorsement. Please provide a description of your "non-highway vehicle" and serial numbers to your agent.

If your "non-highway vehicles" have been properly insured, your agent will issue an insurance card for you to produce if stopped by a police officer on a public roadway.

Recently one of our very own mechanics, Jake Devall was involved in a lawn mower race at Post Oak near St. Elmo, IL. Jake had a great time being involved in this event. He brought home the gold and won 1st place in this race. Way To Go Jake!!!!

Jake has been a mechanic here at Bahrns Equipment, Inc. since May of 2007. He lives here in Effingham & is a graduate of Effingham High School. Jake often enters varies lawn mower races around the area.

Sledding

Do you remember waiting and waiting as a kid for the snow to come? I know I did. I couldn't wait for the snow to fall because that meant I got to go sledding. There is nothing better than that!!! We would hit all the big hills and my uncles would take us on this 4-wheeler all over the place.

My uncle now has a Kubota RTV that he ties the sled up to and takes all the kids for sled rides. My son can't wait for another year at Uncle Jr's house to play in the snow.

Those are memories that will last forever!!!

December Is Here

Well December has arrived and we have almost made it through 2009. Although yesterday, the 1st of December sure didn't feel like a normal December day with it being 55 degrees outside.

I think we will soon be visited by Ol'Man Winter. It will soon be snowing & blowing & icing. Let's hope that we do not get any bad ice storms this year. In case we do it would be good to have a generator on hand in case the power goes out. Also, if you have a fireplace it would be good to have a Stihl chainsaw on hand to cut fire wood to keep on hand.

Be Thankful This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all that we have to be thankful for. Our freedom, our family and our friends are a good start. As we go into this holiday season we need to slow down and take the time to enjoy what we have.
